Major League Baseball (MLB) is the professional sports organization of baseball and is also the oldest of the four major professional sports federations in the United States and Canada. Major League Baseball has a total of 30 teams from many different states of the US and Canada. The official logo of the tournament is a baseball player, said to be based on Jackie Robinson, one of the legendary players and the first black person to play for the tournament. These thirty teams are divided into two different league systems, the American League and the National League with 15 teams each. Beginning in 1903, the two league systems cooperated but remained completely separate until they were merged by the Commissioner of Baseball in 2000.
