HIGHLIGHTS FROM TODAY’S SHOW:

[3:59 PM, 7/14/2022] Akile: The police file regarding the killings of three friends at the hands of police officers in Port of Spain on Saturday 2nd July, 2022, will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions tomorrow, Friday 15th July.

• Relatives and friends of the men staged a peaceful demonstration outside the scene of the killings at the corner of independence square and Chacon Street in Port of Spain earlier today calling for justice to be served in the matter.

• The group then walked towards the police administration building where the mothers of Fabien Richards, and the parents of Leonardo Williams, were invited to meet with the acting commissioner of police Mc Donald Jacob.

• Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Williams had asked that the protest in front of the police administration building be stopped shortly before he invited the parents into the police administration building.

• Among those calling for justice was four-year-old Emmanuel St. Clair, the nephew of Fabien Richards.

17-year-old Isaiah Roberts; 17-year-old Leonardo Williams; and 21-year-old Fabien Richards were shot & killed by officers of the guard and emergency branch inside a white Toyota aqua motor car in downtown Port of Spain.

• Police claimed occupants of the car opened fire on the men but three survivors have disputed the police’s version of events saying that the only ones who were firing shots were the police.

• Even bystanders accused the police of firing shots at unarmed persons.

• Last week all three victims were laid to rest after separate funeral services.

Copper bandits are believed to be involved in the disappearance of the 200-year-old brass bell from the St. John’s Anglican Church in Petit Bourg, San Juan.

• The bell was allegedly stolen over a month but was only recently noticed missing because it is only used for special occasions.

• The 200 year old iconic bell, which is used for special occasions, was only recently discovered missing.

• Reports states that scrap iron thieves had also stolen manhole covers from around the church.

Daniel Guerra’s accused killer, suspended police constable Darwin Ghouralal allegedly attempted to commit suicide while in custody at the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC) on Wednesday 13th July, 2022.

• Ghouralal surrendered himself to police on Saturday 09th July 2022, for the murder of 8-year-old, Guerra, after he had been in hiding for approximately 9 years.

• Around 1:00pm yesterday, Ghouralal, who is currently awaiting trial for the murder, attempted to take his own life.

• Ghouralal is currently being closely monitored at the eastern correctional rehabilitation center, while he continues to wait for trial.

41-year-old, market vendor, Mitchum Hamid, of Granger Hill, Guayaguayare road, Rio Claro, was shot to death by a man known to him, in front of his home on Wednesday 13th July 2022.

• Around 9:00pm, Hamid was in the gallery of his home liming with friends when a black Toyota corolla approached.

• He made his way to the vehicle and there was a conversation with the passenger.

• As Hamid walked away, another passenger in the vehicle called out to him and he went to the driver’s side and was shot. Hamid fell to the ground and was shot again. He was taken to hospital but he died.

A vendor was shot in the face in broad daylight at the corner of Broadway and south quay in downtown Port of Spain on Thursday 14th July 2022.
