Vegas Visual Theater: Las Vegas Hotels, Modern Marvels
We go back to 1998 when the History Channel talked about the history and architecture of Las Vegas hotels and how they are modern marvels.
The one negative about this doc is the narrator was wrong several times when he mentioned when something happened (wrong year).
But some of the top Vegas architects are in the documentary and here are some of the commentators:
Architect Joel Bergman was the principal at Atlandia, which was Steve Wynn’s in-house architect firm. Bergman’s Wynn projects included Golden Nugget, Mirage and Treasure Island while other projects for Bergman included Caesars Palace, Fontainebleau, the International (Westgate), both MGM Grands, Paris, Sahara and Trump International.
Architect Alan Hess is a prominent architectural critic who wrote “Viva Las Vegas: After-Hours Architecture”.
Jan Laverty Jones was the Las Vegas Mayor (1991-99) during the 1990’s building boom. Jones has been on the board of Caesars Entertainment, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and the Las Vegas (Allegiant) Stadium Authority.
Steven Izenour is co-author of “Learning From Las Vegas”, one of the most prominent books on Las Vegas casino architecture and signage.
UNLV Gaming Hall of Fame architect Anthony Marnell II designed Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Mirage, Treasure Island and Wynn. His firm Marnell Corrao Associates is the oldest (1974) & largest architectural firm that designs casinos. Marnell built/owned Rio and M Resort with the “M” standing for his last name “Marnell”.
